Celebrating Icon of African Democracy: Honour for Dr. Kenneth Kaunda at 95

Honour for Dr. Kenneth Kaunda Five former African Heads of States were among hundreds of guests who visited Africa’s living liberation legend, First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda to mark part of his 95th birthday celebrations in Zambia. The five, who are part of the African Forum delegation confirmed the visit to the Zambian High Commission in Pretoria South Africa

The delegation was in Zambia since the end of April as part of the people that celebrated the 95th birthday of the political liberation leader This is the first time that a delegation of former heads of states have visited Dr. Kaunda to mark his birthday celebrations.

Former President of the Republic of Mozambique His Excellency Joacqim Chisano, who is the current chairperson of the Forum led the delegation to visit Dr. Kaunda. Other delegation members include former Malawian President His Excellency Dr. Bakili Muluzi and former President of the United Republic of Tanzania His Excellency Ali Hassan Mwiinyi. Former President of the Republic of Botswana His Excellency Festus Mogae and his Namibian counter His Excellency Hifkipunye Pohamba who have been listed as part of the delegation.

And Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Mwamba has described the visit as historic and a symbolic recognition of his great contributions to the liberation of Southern Africa.

He said Zambia was honoured to have former heads of states from Africa visit Dr. Kaunda.
Mr. Mwamba mentioned that Dr. Kaunda worked hard to contribute to the liberation Africa as a whole. He said that it was pleasing to Zambia as a country to have such visits especially to Dr. Kaunda who has been recognised internationally as a major contributor to Africa’s liberation from colonialism.

This is according to a statement issued by Mrs Naomi Nyawali, First Secretary Press and Public Relations at Zambia High Commission to South Africa.
